As such, books make some of the best presents for her. Those looking to rack up some loyalty points should be on the lookout for ancient tomes and papers on their journey. Considering her profession, it makes sense that Wynne would explore the possibility of Andraste being a mage.
It should also come as no surprise that a book on the subject was pulled out of a fire. After all, it's heresy to some folks. Wynne appreciates it as a gift regardless. She's clearly more open-minded than others in this world. What the book was doing in Orzammar is another question.
Did some Dwarf find it and lock it in a chest for safekeeping? They worship the titans , so this seems a little out of their wheelhouse. Sometimes, people just enjoy a good romance novel. Wynne is no exception. She particularly enjoys this story about Lady Talia Lyonne, a woman who falls into a saucy relationship with Garren, a chevalier.
Orlais is a flamboyant place that prizes cheesiness. It seems like just the place for bodice-rippers or Harlequin romance works in this world. That might be the more likely case since the book is found with a slew of other tomes in the Circle Tower's Senior Mage Quarters. Either way, Wynne wants it. Considering its mysterious contents and gold handles, one would think that this scroll would be at some high-class auction.
Instead, it's hidden in the lower Brecilian Ruins. It's unclear why Wynne would want the Fancy Scroll. Aside from the aforementioned gold handles, nothing about this piece of parchment jumps out as particularly noteworthy. Maybe it contains the last will and testament of whoever's sarcophagus it was found in. One of Wynne's companions, Evangeline de Brassard, was struck down in a duel with Lambert, and Wynne transferred her life force into her friend to save her.
Wynne's age was probably one of the most discussed things among The Warden's companions in Origins. She herself denies being so old she can't fight but admits on the occasion that perhaps her age was holding her back.
It's never explicitly stated in-game, but Wynne does provide several clues about her past that help to fit the pieces together. She took her Harrowing - a Mage's rite of passage - when she was seventeen, taking on an apprentice two years after. The apprentice seemingly died one year later, before Wynne gave birth to her son in Dragon. Asunder takes place in Dragon, meaning Wynne died at 59 years old. Following the Archdemon's defeat, Wynne stated that she'd most likely return to the Fereldan Circle and help rebuild after it'd been overrun by Abominations.
In Dragon Age: Awakening , she appears in Amaranthine, where she can provide a side quest but, as mentioned in previous points, cannot join The Warden's party. Conversations with her in Awakening hint at the upcoming Mage-Templar War.
Even during this time, Wynne talks about how the College of Magi is meeting to discuss separating from The Chantry entirely. In her banter with Alistair in Origins , Wynne revealed that she often sought the "company" of other mages in her youth, but her pregnancy was ultimately the result of her time spent with a Templar.
When Wynne was 21, she gave birth to a boy, Rhys, who inherited her magical abilities. His Templar father claimed that Wynne willingly gave up Rhys to remain in The Circle, though Wynne says she was too weak to stop The Templars, as they'd taken Rhys right after his birth. Rhys physically appears for the first time in the novel Asunder , and it's revealed that his time as a mage has largely revolved around his study of demons.
Rhys later overtakes Wynne's position and duties in The Circle following her death and can be contacted through war-table missions in Inquisition. He also appears in the mobile game Heroes of Dragon Age. Not every player's experience with Dragon Age is universal, and Wynne's father grand motherly demeanor may have irritated more than a few players.
There are some instances in the game where Wynne can turn on The Warden - depending on their actions, and fighting her will result in her death. However, because of BioWare's own official canon, The Warden does not do anything so wrong that it offends Wynne's morals, so a death in Origins technically doesn't matter.
She lived with the farmers that discovered her in a hayloft for a couple months. Like many mages though, her powers made the family call Templars to take her to the Circle. She powers manifested when she retaliated against the sons' bullying her. She set them on fire! Wynne was only seventeen-years-old when she took her Harrowing, which is a couple years early. According to The World of Thedas Volume 2 , she was an ideal student of magic.
Her methods with magic all seemed natural, and she quickly progressed through the ranks until she became a mentor for other mages. This led to Wynne being a strict teacher at first with her students as she held them to a high standard. She changed her tune though after her first student escaped the Circle.
In the book, the characters attend her funeral. Leliana suggests burying Wynne near a tree at Andoral's Reach. This is a place players haven't seen in any games yet.
